In addition to language, students in the Vietnamese language course learn about Vietnamese culture, economy, history, Vietnamese people's sense of values, and many other things in comparison with Japan. In addition to classroom lectures, students sometimes take part in hands-on activities such as cooking and eating Vietnamese food. In addition, many students from Vietnam and abroad come to study at the University of Hanoi during the cultural and language field trip, so students can improve their Vietnamese and English language skills and broaden their perspectives by being exposed to various cultures and values.

I became interested in Vietnamese culture and language when a friend of mine moved to Vietnam as a child, and the most memorable experience during my two years of school was studying abroad for six months. I studied Vietnamese and English at the University of Hanoi while living in a dormitory with students from other countries. I became good friends with students from a local Japanese language study group, and we taught each other our native languages. On holidays, we went to the movies together and ate at recommended restaurants. The conversations I had with my friends in a foreign country definitely helped me improve my language skills. Some of these friends are now in Japan as international students. The other day, I met one of them and showed him around Odaiba. We still have a relationship where we teach each other our native languages.
After graduation, I was able to become a police officer, which had been my dream since childhood. I am currently working at a police box in the Togane Police Station of the Chiba Prefectural Police Department. There are many residents from overseas who are not fluent in Japanese, and English is useful in communicating with them. Of course, I speak Vietnamese with Vietnamese people. It is easier for people to open up to me when I speak to them in their native language. Just recently, I was registered as a designated interpreter for Vietnamese. I am requested to interpret for foreigners when the police officers on the scene are not able to respond to them alone. I would like to continue my studies and grow further both as a police officer and as an interpreter. I will use the language skills I have developed at Kanda Institute of Languages to protect the safety and security of the people of the prefecture.
